Reconciling confirms that everything that came into Clearing from a connected bank account or credit card matches the bank exactly, no missing transactions, no duplicates.
Simple Steps to Reconcile Bank Accounts within Clearing
Step 1 - Access the Reconcile Account feature in Clearing
Log in to your Clearing account using your credentials and navigate to the âTransactionsâ section in the side menu. Within the "Transactions" section click on the "Reconcile" option on the top menu bar.
Step 2 - Choose the Specific Bank Account
Select the bank account you wish to reconcile. Any bank accounts or balances connected to Clearing will appear in this list.
Step 3 â Set the Date Range
Choose a date range for the reconciliation process. This will typically be based on the statement you're working on at the time. It should include the same start and end date.
Step 4 â Add the Starting and Ending Balances
Clearing provides form entries for the starting and ending balances. You can put the starting and ending balances in the relevant boxes according to the bank statement you are referencing.
As you enter the ending and starting balance, the "Total from below" and the "Ending - starting" amounts should match. This will ensure that we collected all your transactions and the sum of each transaction in this time range match the delta between the ending and starting balance of the account.
Step 5 â Reconcile the Transactions
Go through each transaction, after confirming and categorizing them appropriately, click on the check box against each transaction to add each transaction to the reconciled amount. This is a good exercise to make sure that you have reviewed each transaction.
As you check the box to reconcile transactions, the reconciled amount should end up matching the two other amounts: "Total from below" and "Ending - starting". If they already line up, you can select all to reconcile everything at once.
If the numbers don't match: go through your bank statement line by line and check off each transaction as you find it in Clearing. By the end, you'll have surfaced either a transaction that's missing from Clearing, or one in Clearing that's a duplicate.
Step 6 - Save Reconciliation
Once all transactions are reconciled, click on the "Save" button. This action saves the reconciliation for future reference. This will allow you to know where you left off with your month over month books.
Step 7 - Lock Reconciled Transactions
Once your reconciliation is saved, lock the reconciled transactions. This protects them from being changed later, keeping this period's data consistent as you move on to the rest of your close. You can revisit and re-check this at any time to confirm everything is still locked.
Step 8 - Access Historical Data
Property managers can save and store multiple reconciliations, contributing to a comprehensive financial history. Click the "History" button to view and revisit previous reconciliations for transparency and traceability. You can also filter this view down to a single account instead of seeing all accounts at once.
